This image shows part of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field which, after this image was taken, became home to SN Primo, the most distant Type Ia supernova to be confirmed to date. The sighting of SN Primo is the first finding of an ambitious survey that will help astronomers place better constraints on the nature of dark energy, the mysterious repulsive force which is causing the universe to fly apart at an ever increasing rate.
