The red dot in the centre of this image is the newfound galaxy MACS1149-JD observed using the combined power of NASA's Spitzer and Hubble space telescopes, as well as a cosmic magnification effect. MACS1149-JD could be the most distant galaxy ever observed andopens a window onto the deepest, most remote epochs of cosmic history.
