A close-up of the star HD 87643, taken with the adaptive optics instrument, NACO, on ESO's Very Large Telescope. Adaptive optics allows astronomers to compensate for the blurring effect of the atmosphere, revealing details 20 times smaller than the associated WFI image. The image was obtained in the near-infrared, through the K and L-bands. The field of view is 14 arc-seconds.
