This image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope is one of the deepest visible/ultraviolet light images of the Universe ever taken. It shows a tiny region in the southern constellation of Tucana (The Toucan) called the Hubble Deep Field South. The image was taken with the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 in 1998. Light from the galaxies was also analysed with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS).
