Based on an estimated distance of 180 million light years away, NGC 6962 is an intrinsically large galaxy. Many other galaxies punctuate the field of the group; but NGC 6962 is by far the most prominent. In 2002 a supernova explosion took place in one the outer arms of this galaxy. The event added some excitement to the otherwise relatively dim and smooth arms shown here. This image was taken as part of Advanced Observing Program (AOP) program at Kitt Peak Visitor Center during 2014.
